Daniel based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, is considered by DVN President Hector Fratty as one of the five greatest lighting experts in North America. He is an appointed member of the US transportation Research Board Visibility Committee, which steers North America research on matters related to automotive conspicuity, lighting performance and regulation. He is an active member of the SAE Lighting Systems Group, and attends and participates in the world’s automotive symposia and technical conferences.

Mike Flannagan is a research associate professor at The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), where he does research on the human factors of driving, with primary focus on human vision and psychophysics. Much of his recent work has concentrated on the analysis of crash data to assess the likely safety effects of advanced headlighting, and on field methods for testing and evaluating these systems.

Matthew Brumbelow is a senior research engineer at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Vehicle Research Center where he has worked since 2002. Most of his research has focused on how vehicle structure and restraint performance in laboratory test conditions relates to real-world crash outcomes. His findings have contributed to the development of the Institute’s consumer information programs for frontal crashes, side-impacts, rollovers, and truck underride guards.

Matthew also led the Institute’s effort to develop a headlight test program. Launched in 2016, this program now includes consumer information ratings for over 900 different headlight systems.

John Bullough is a Program Director for Population Health Science and Policy at the Light and Health Research Center, part of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Previously he was Director of Transportation and Safety Lighting Programs at the Lighting Research Center of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has degrees in computer science, communication and rhetoric, lighting and in multidisciplinary science. John coordinates the Light and Health Research Center’s research activities in vehicle lighting, street lighting, pedestrian safety, visual perception, human factors and disability and discomfort glare. He has written or co-written 500 articles and technical publications on lighting, and is a Fellow of the Illuminating Engineering Society, a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, and serves on the Human Factors for Infrastructure Design and Operations Committee of the Transportation Research Board.

Dr. Michael Hamm is Manager at Audi AG in Ingolstadt, Germany. He is responsible for headlamp development of all Audi car lines.

Before his time at Audi, Hamm was Head of Lighting and Innovation for 14 years at Automotive Lighting in Reutlingen, Germany.

He studied physics at Technical University Darmstadt. His Ph.D. research at the Darmstadt Lighting Institute concerned the spectral sensitivity and signal processing in the human eye.

Throughout his career, he contributed to 49 technical papers and many conferences on lighting topics and new technologies like Xenon, dynamic curve light, LED DRL, the world’s first LED headlamps, energy saving LED functions, Matrix, Laser and cutting edge lighting technologies combined with driver assistance systems. Latest innovation topics are the individualized DRL signatures and Digital Projections on the road with DMD based Projectors. His continuous passion is to improve safety in nighttime driving.

Paul-Henri is an Engineer from the famous French Ecole des Mines.

He joined Renault in 2000 and the lighting department in 2004.

He was the Lighting Project Manager on Mégane 2 and 3 then Head of Pre-Development and Innovation of Manager of the Lighting and seating department in Bucharest for the Dacia range.

In 2015, he was nominated Expert lighting of Renault A dozen patents dozen under his name in the field of lighting

He joined Volvo in 2018

Michael Larsen is the Exterior Lighting Technical Leader at General Motors, where he has been responsible for lighting for almost 30 years.  Michael is also actively involved with the SAE Lighting committees, including the SAE Headlamp Assessment task force which is the topic of his talk today.

Michael will talk today on the long road to legalize ADB in the US.

I have crafted my career at Ford Motor Company on Product Development for over 20 years, with experience living and working in Brazil, China and in the United States.

Currently, I am part of the Global Core Exterior Lighting team located in North America leading the delivery of new strategies for front and rear lighting systems. In addition, also focusing on new technologies development and pre program assumptions linked with the Lighting cycle plan strategy.

I hold a BSc from Mackenzie University in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA from Universidade Federal da Bahia. Also, my PhD is from Universidade Federal da Bahia, developed in Industrial Engineering.

Currently, I have had more than 20 technical papers presented in several forums and congresses across the world as well as multiple patents filed

Shammika Wickramasinghe is the Technical Specialist for Exterior Lighting, responsible for the technical strategy at Jaguar, Land Rover. He joined the company in 2011and was instrumental in delivering the F-Type lamps including the very popular Tail signature project. Shammika has been in the automotive industry since 1998 and was Section Manager of the Electrical team at Honda UK which included delivery of the 2006 Civic exterior lighting package. Thanks to his expertise in lighting and understanding of Electrical Systems and the involvement of his management, Jaguar Land Rover presents new models with highest technologies in Exterior Lighting.

Hector Fratty’s entire career has been in vehicle lighting. From 1995 to 2006, he was Valeo Lighting Systems’ chief of R&D, His level of expertise in lighting gained him recognition as one of Valeo’s 5 Master Experts. He headed the Valeo Lighting Expert Committee through March 2008.

Hector Fratty presides over the biennial VISION Congress international vehicle lighting and driver assistance symposium. He is also a member of the ISAL steering committee,

After graduating, John worked 10 years in the aerospace industry specializing in composite structures before moving into the automotive industry.

John has 27 years of lighting experience in different R&D positions. He has been at his most recent position for 10 years as Innovation Manager for Valeo Lighting North America.

Additionally, he is a member of the Industry Advisers Board for Optics and Physics at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.

John has presented at DVN North America since 2012. He has several publications and multiple patents.

Luc Brisson, engineer from the «Ecole des Mines de Douai» started at Visteon in 1995, and after working at Alcatel and Delphi (now APTIV), he served as the global engineering head at APTIV Connectivity and Security. He has worked in France, Poland and China.

In July 2020 Luc Brisson joined Varroc Lighting Systems as the Senior Vice President of product development and now assumes responsibility for the leadership of the global product development team, reports directly to Stephane Vedié, CEO Varroc Lighting Systems. He is based in Krakow, Poland.

Joel has been in the autonomous driving industry for more than 10 years. Joel was a graduate fellow at the Stanford AI Lab, where he co-founded Drive.ai, an autonomous driving company that has deployed several passenger-carrying services in Texas. It has since been acquired by Apple. He has also worked on the self-driving teams at Nissan and General Motors and was a key engineer in building General Motors SuperCruise highway autonomy feature.
